Vice President, Digital Strategy


The Vice President will be responsible for the hands-on planning, coordination and management of the development, execution and financial administration of digital strategies across client business. Typically, the Vice President:

  • Manages multiple significant and high-profile digital projects and engagements across clients
  • Typically has 10+ years’ relevant experience
  • Manages assigned projects independently with 1-2+ direct reports
  • Actively participates in new business efforts, growing in-line business and helping to secure new clients
  • Serves as a member of the Regional Management Team
  • Reports to the Senior Vice President or Executive Vice President


Client Partnership

  • Leads and maintains relationships with core clients and external audiences and partners
  • Serves as strategic digital counsel lead for client engagements based on broad communications landscape and business goals; takes immediate action on client feedback
  • Leads all aspects of planning and execution of digital projects for clients (including leadership of annual client program planning), ensuring timeliness, efficiency and high-quality delivery of results
  • Responds to client concerns with thoughtful strategic guidance/responding on a timely basis, demonstrating commitment and ability to troubleshoot problems as they arise
  • Manages financial tracking and administration pertaining to digital programming for key client engagements, in partnership with senior account team members
  • Serves as facilitator/moderator for digital-related client workshops and events, including related platform trainings, digital trend overviews, digital workshops and 101 sessions, etc.
  • Takes an active role in developing staffing plans for core businesses

Business Development & Operations

  • Supports development and presentation of new business proposals from start to finish (in partnership with other team members and partners); presents during new business pitches with confidence
  • Continuously identifies opportunities for organic growth of digital initiatives within accounts
  • Partners with SVP/EVPs for forecast development when appropriate
  • Demonstrates initiative and resourcefulness and works through issues independently
  • Utilizes data to drive agency recommendations and idea generation including ability to lead social listening and research projects to uncover clear and actionable insights
  • Fosters positive relationships across organization through leading key areas of organizational efforts (company marketing / digital efforts, professional development opportunities, broader team coaching, mentorship program, team outings coordination, etc.)
  • Partners with Head of Social and Head of Digital to assess staffing/resources regularly to effectively meet clients’ digital programming needs

Leadership & Teamwork

  • Leads onboarding new specialty team members and account team members to best practices for working with digital team
  • Serves as a mentor and resource in educating internal teams on digital best practices
  • Provides direct and constructive feedback to junior team members, supporting them in developing fundamental skill sets (writing, research, logistics, etc.)
  • Encourages regular feedback from manager and team members
  • Partners effectively with agency and other specialty leads across media, digital and creative to deliver integrated programming recommendations for clients; models collaborative abilities with staff
  • Demonstrates strong strategic leadership skills; guides digital strategy for assigned business and teaches others
  • Conducts staff annual reviews and regular check-ins, overseeing professional development and opportunities for growth and advancement
  • Supervises staff by mentoring, motivating, coaching, and providing clear and consistent feedback
  • Proactively seeks out professional development opportunities, skillset growth in digital
  • Role models company values and inspires an inclusive culture


Effective Communication

  • Extensive knowledge of digital best practices across channels and keen eye for reviewing digital content for consistency, voice, channel nuances, brand/program style and strategically assessing analytics reports against established KPIs
  • Demonstrates the ability to apply strong writing skills to all projects, providing thoughtful content strategy and editorial guidance to digital and account team members, ensuring overall quality in all outputs
  • Hones presentation skills and can effectively coach other team members to further develop their skills accordingly
  • Creates and refines work processes with account teams including development of strategic briefs and ensuring digital team inclusion as appropriate
  • Leads client interactions and liaison with external agency and third- party partners (e.g., vendors, digital platform reps, etc.)
  • Proactively drives agency recommendations and idea generation
  • Manages workflow on accounts, anticipating and flagging staffing issues and offering solutions to EVP



  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in communications, marketing, digital, business or health/science-related field or equivalent experience
  • 10+ years’ communications or related marketing / digital / social experience; Global health issues or health product communications experience preferred
  • Expert in working across digital platforms and executing programs supporting corporate, branded and unbranded healthcare and lifestyle initiatives
  • Track record of leading successful digital and social campaigns. Experience with social media strategy, content creation and campaign management – organic and paid initiatives.
  • Hands-on experience with mobile, web or email marketing not required but an advantage
  • Understanding of online research, analytics, CRM, CMS and email management software tools, guiding teams on effective and efficient program management, evaluation and integration
  • Confident with digital data (web, search, social, mobile; quantitative and qualitative), able to direct analytics projects and derive meaningful insights that can inform the strategic approach and yield hyper-targeted, high-impact communications strategies
